Asian Americans Advancing Justice-Chicago and the PAVE Coalition Releases

2014 Gubernatorial Candidate Questionnaire

Bruce Rauner Fails to Respond

CHICAGO – On October 22, Asian Americans Advancing Justice—Chicago (Advancing Justice—Chicago) and the Pan-Asian Voter Empowerment (PAVE) Coalition released their 2014 Gubernatorial Candidate Questionnaire. Answers were received from Governor Pat Quinn, but no responses were provided by Mr. Bruce Rauner after several requests by Advancing Justice—Chicago.

“We are disappointed that Bruce Rauner chose not to respond to our questionnaire because Asian American voters have a right to know where the next elected governor stands on these issues,” said Tuyet Le, executive director of Advancing Justice—Chicago.

This month and up through Election Day, Advancing Justice—Chicago and the PAVE Coalition are conducting non-partisan Get Out The Vote (GOTV) activities to encourage all Asian American voters to vote. As part of this effort, Advancing Justice—Chicago and the PAVE Coalition will be distributing this questionnaire to Illinois voters and making it available online, along with translated versions for some Asian languages. Over the last two decades, the Asian American population in Illinois has doubled in size, exceeding 668,000.

The PAVE Coalition includes: Alliance of Filipinos for Immigrant Rights and Empowerment, Asian Americans Advancing Justice—Chicago, Cambodian Association of Illinois, Chinese American Service League, Chinese Mutual Aid Association, Coalition for a Better Chinese American Community, Hamdard Center for Health and Human Services, Indo-American Center, Japanese American Service Committee of Chicago, Korean American Community Services, Korean American Resource and Cultural Center, Lao American Community Services, Lao American Organization of Elgin, Muslim Women Resource Center.
