American values require that we stand with our AMEMSA communities and remain committed to our shared notions of fairness and equality. We know what happens when we do not govern our country by these core values. We encounter historical injustices, like the Chinese Exclusion Act and the mass incarceration of over 110,000 Americans of Japanese ancestry into concentration camps.

As the U.S. Supreme Court hears oral arguments today in Fisher v. Texas for a second time, Asian Americans Advancing Justice (Advancing Justice) stands firm in supporting equal opportunity and affirmative action in higher education.

Asian Americans Advancing Justice extends our deepest condolences to those affected by yesterday’s shooting at the Inland Regional Center in nearby San Bernardino. We also condemn the mass shooting, this latest one hitting particularly close to home in its setting at a social service agency in a neighboring county.

With the release of a video capturing the horrific murder of Laquan McDonald by Chicago Police Department Officer Jason Van Dyke, Asian Americans Advancing Justice | Chicago reinforces our solidarity with Black-led community organizations who have taken the lead in this movement to end police violence in our city, while also lifting up our condolences and support to the family of Laquan.
