Five Civil Rights Organizations Oppose Latest Immigration Actions in the House
House Republicans Introduce Two Anti-Immigrant Bills During Immigrant Heritage Month

Washington, D.C. — Representative Bob Goodlatte (R-Va.) introduced a set of anti-immigrant bills that are scheduled for a vote later this week. These are the latest in a line of bills that outline a clear anti-immigrant strategy by House leadership and this administration.

H.R. 3003 seeks to authorize the Federal Government to withhold millions of dollars in federal funding for localities with limited detainer policies, sanctuary city policies, and community trust policies aimed at complying with the Constitution and making communities safer. H.R. 3004 would expand the Federal Government’s ability to prosecute people for illegal reentry into the U.S., excludes humanitarian exemptions for people fleeing violence, and heightens penalties in those cases.

CHICAGO — Four Asian American candidates won local elections on Tuesday, April 4:

1. Aurora Austriaco, Maine Township School Board
2. Jean Ikezoe-Halevi, Lincolnwood trustee
3. Khemarey Khoeun, Skokie Park District
4. Pramod Shah, Skokie Clerk

“Asian Americans are the fastest growing racial group in the United States, and right here in Illinois we are showing that our community’s growth has also resulted in a growth in power,” said Tuyet Le, executive director of Asian Americans Advancing Justice | Chicago. “The wins achieved in yesterday’s election add to the already historic number of Asian American elected officials representing Illinois from local offices to the U.S. Senate.” (more…)

LOS ANGELES – Today, a Federal court in Hawaii blocked a second attempt by President Trump to ban Muslims from entering the country.
