ILLINOIS STATE SENATE TO HOLD HEARING ON PROPOSED AUTOMATIC VOTER REGISTRATION BILL
SB250 will streamline and simplify voter registration in Illinois with reforms to make Illinois voter rolls the most secure and accurate possible.
WHAT: The Illinois State Senate Executive Committee will hold a hearing on Senate Bill 250, which would create Automatic Voter Registration in Illinois, switching the voter registration process from an opt-in to an opt-out model.

SPRINGFIELD— A proposal to streamline and simplify voter registration in Illinois will be heard during an Illinois Senate hearing on Wednesday, April 20th.
Senate Bill 250, sponsored by State Senator Andy Manar (D-Bunker Hill), reforms current registration laws so that whenever an eligible Illinois resident applies for, updates or renews a driver’s license or state ID, he or she will be automatically registered to vote in the local jurisdiction unless they opt out. PAVE Organizations meet with Asian American Legislative Caucus
South Asian American community leaders joined a diverse group of representatives from the Pan Asian Voter Empowerment (PAVE) Coalition for an Illinois Asian American Legislative Caucus meeting this past week at the Sikh Resource Society (SRS) in Palatine. The legislators in attendance at the bipartisan caucus meeting included Senator Daniel Biss, Representative Elaine Nekritz, Representative Thomas Morrison, Representative Fred Crespo, Representative Michelle Mussman, and Representative Carol Sente. ASIAN AMERICANS PUSH FOR SEAT AT THE TABLE AS CANDIDATES
Asian Americans are making their voices heard at the ballot box, and demanding a seat at the table as elected officials. For the March 15 primary election, the Asian American community of Illinois had increased access to the polls, turned out to vote in large numbers in the northwest suburbs thanks to voter engagement efforts, and ran successful campaigns for public office.
“Not only are Asian Americans voting at higher numbers, but they are energized to participate in the November election,” said Tuyet Le, Executive Director of Asian Americans Advancing Justice | Chicago. “Now, we are seeing more community members eying seats at federal, state, and local levels of government.” (more…)
