Nidhi Shastri joins Asian Americans Advancing Justice | Chicago as a community organizer. She has worked as an audio journalist and organizer, seeking to share stories to create a more equitable society.
Nidhi traces her passion for storytelling and helping the Asian community back to her mother, who would retell old Indian myths in Gujarati at the dinner table while she was growing up. Since then, Nidhi has helped produce and launch multiple award-winning podcasts, including “Model Minority: Uniquely American,” which shares stories from the Asian, African, and Middle Eastern diasporas. Her work also includes co-producing NPR’s podcast “Track Change” and executive producing Illinois Public Media’s show “Dialogue.”
Nidhi previously led the Patients Over Profits campaign at the Illinois Single-Payer Coalition, which sought to expand healthcare access to uninsured and underinsured communities, especially during the height of the COVID-19 pandemic. In her spare time, she enjoys drinking various teas and trying breads from around the world.
