ASIAN AMERICANS ADVANCING JUSTICE CALLS OUT FOX NEWS AND THE O’REILLY FACTOR FOR RACIST SEGMENT

LOS ANGELES – Asian Americans Advancing Justice issued the following statement in regards to a recent segment that ran on The O’Reilly Factor:

“Asian Americans Advancing Justice is outraged by the blatant, racist and offensive stereotypes of Chinese Americans portrayed in a recent Fox News segment during The O’Reilly Factor. The fact that O’Reilly termed this as “gentle fun” and Watters believed it was “all in good fun” only demonstrates a complete lack of a moral compass. It is unconscionable that a news organization would sanction a segment that laughs at a community of people, including Watters ridiculing elderly Chinese Americans who were limited English proficient. Advocates: Suspension of Election Day Registration will hurt communities across Illinois

Members of the Just Democracy Illinois coalition are disappointed by the federal judge’s decision to grant a preliminary injunction that would suspend Election Day Registration in polling places for the November Presidential election.

“Election Day Registration breaks down barriers to the ballot and ensures that the right to vote is accessible to all citizens,” said Andy Kang, legal director of Asian Americans Advancing Justice | Chicago. “We will fight this ruling on the appeal and also continue our efforts to override the veto of Automatic Voter Registration. Ensuring that these two measures are law will help restore Illinois as a national leader in ballot access.” (और ज्यादा…)

Just Democracy Coalition statement on AVR veto, August 15, 2016

Hello, my name is Kathleen Yang-Clayton of Asian Americans Advancing Justice | Chicago, and today, on behalf of Just Democracy Illinois, we express our deep disappointment with Governor Bruce Rauner’s veto of Automatic Voter Registration.

In our push for Automatic Voter Registration, over 50 organizations statewide signed on to endorse. Our diverse coalition, made up of civil rights, community organizing, and good government organizations, worked with policymakers and legislators from both sides of the aisle for 7 months to get this bill passed. At any time, the Governor could have raised his concerns with SB 250, but instead he waited until the 11th hour and vetoed a good bill. (और ज्यादा…)
